Biography  

Engr. Jerome Gabutero Gacu is a civil engineer, educator, and researcher specializing in hydrology, sediment management, and disaster risk reduction. He is a faculty member of the Department of Civil Engineering, College of Engineering and Technology at Romblon State University (RSU), where he actively promotes research and community engagement in environmental sustainability. He earned his Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Mapúa University and is currently on study leave under the MEXT Scholarship while pursuing his PhD in Civil and Earth Resources Engineering at Kyoto University, Japan, under the supervision of Prof. Sameh A. Kantoush. His doctoral research focuses on integrated hydrological and sediment management in the Cagayan River Basin, utilizing numerical modeling, GIS, and remote sensing to support flood and sediment risk reduction. His work advances sustainable approaches for flood resilience, reservoir operation, and sediment management in Philippine river basins, bridging scientific research, policy, and community-based innovation. As an educator, researcher, engineer, and passionate environmental advocate, he strives to create meaningful impact through high-impact research, sustainable engineering practices, and community voluntarism, with recent works and publications focusing on solid waste management, disaster risk management, geographic information systems, and sustainable environment and energy.
