Asma Bouamrane

Biography

Asma is currently a Ph.D. student at the Water Resources Research Center, Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University.  She earned her B.Sc. in Water Engineering from the Civil Engineering Department, Faculty of Science and Technology.     She then pursued a Master’s degree at the Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences (including Climate Change) , where she deepened her understanding of African water challenges and broader environmental issues affecting the continent. She also completed a Master’s degree in Urban Hydraulics, strengthening her expertise in urban water systems.
Throughout her academic and professional journey, she has specialized in urban hydraulics with a strong focus on water supply and sanitation. Through various internships in engineering companies, she contributed to several applied water management projects, further developing her technical and practical engineering skills. She has also strengthened her research capacity by participating in advanced modeling workshops, specialized training programs, and national and international conferences.  In addition, she has contributed to several scientific and development initiatives and projects, reflecting her commitment to advancing water resource management in both academic and applied settings.
In her current Ph.D. research, Asma’s work centers on transboundary water resources management and natural hazard assessment. She integrates physical hydrological modeling with advanced machine learning techniques to improve the understanding and prediction of environmental processes. Her research specifically focuses on soil erosion, sediment dynamics, and the impacts of forest fires, with particular emphasis on addressing the complex challenges faced by shared and transboundary river basins.
